Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary (June 6th 2023)

Celebrating the Queenship of Mary: Embracing Her Reign in Our Hearts

Introduction:

Today, in the traditional Latin calendar, we joyfully celebrate the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast day holds deep theological significance, reminding us of the honor we should bestow upon our beloved Mother Mary and the profound love of our God. Let us delve into the scriptural and theological foundations that illuminate the fittingness of Mary’s role as Queen.

Mary as Queen in the Davidic Kingdom:

Examining Scripture, we discover that in the Davidic Kingdom, the queen was not the king’s wife but his mother. The reign of King Solomon in 1 Kings 2 highlights the homage paid to his mother, who was given a throne on his right-hand side. As Jesus, the eternal King of the new and everlasting Kingdom, descended from the lineage of David, it is fitting that parallels between the Davidic and new Kingdoms exist. Consequently, it is not surprising to recognize Mary as the Queen, given Her unique role as the Mother of Jesus.

Mary’s Royal Dignity in the Gospel of Luke:

In the Gospel of Luke, we witness the Angel Gabriel hailing Mary as royalty, acknowledging Her as the Mother of God, full of grace. Furthermore, Mary’s exceptional purity is evident in Her Immaculate Conception, as She was preserved from all sin. Through the grace and power of our Lord, Mary was assumed body and soul into Heaven. Thus, just as Christ reigns as the King of the Universe at the right hand of the Father, Mary reigns as Queen of Heaven and Earth at the right hand of Her Son.

Embracing Mary’s Queenship:

As we commemorate the Queenship of Mary, we are called to let Her reign in our hearts. The message of Our Lady of Fatima provides us with clear guidance. We are invited to repent, pray, and perform acts of penance. In a world filled with temptations and errors that seek to pollute our hearts, we must resist and rededicate ourselves to acts of penance. A powerful means of embracing Mary’s Queenship is by praying the Rosary daily. By doing so, we unite with Mary, contemplate the Fifth Glorious Mystery of Her crowning as Queen, and surrender our hearts to Her, aligning our will with that of God. Through this surrender, Mary’s Immaculate Heart shall reign in us and in the whole world.

Conclusion:

The celebration of the Queenship of Mary reminds us of the profound love and honor we owe to our Blessed Mother. As Queen of Heaven and Earth, Mary holds a unique place in God’s plan of salvation. Let us embrace Her reign in our hearts by following Her guidance to repent, pray, and perform acts of penance. The daily recitation of the Rosary deepens our connection with Mary, enabling us to surrender our hearts to Her and align our will with that of God. As we live out the truth of Mary’s Queenship, may Her Immaculate Heart reign not only in us but also in the entire world. Let us turn to Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, and implore Her intercession for us.
