Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Oct. 11th)

The Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary: A Divine Love Story

Today we remember the profound significance of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the tapestry of the traditional Latin calendar, today’s celebration holds a special place, reminding us of the divine essence of motherhood embodied by the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Embracing the Divine Motherhood:

In our reverence for Mary, we acknowledge Her as the Blessed Virgin, the new Eve, and the Queen of Heaven and Earth. Yet, it is Her role as a Mother that resonates most deeply. Her Immaculate Conception was a divine grace bestowed upon Her in preparation for Her sacred vocation – to be the Mother of Jesus, the Son of God. The title of “Theotokos” encapsulates the reverence due to Her, emphasizing Her unparalleled spiritual motherhood, the very essence we celebrate today.

Mary: Our Spiritual Mother:

At the crucifixion, amidst the agony, Jesus entrusted Mary to John, symbolically bequeathing Her as the spiritual Mother of the Church. In this profound moment, Mary embraced all of humanity as Her spiritual children. Just as She stood by John, She stands by each of us, extending Her maternal grace and love.

The Flame of Immaculate Love:

Mary’s Immaculate Heart, aflame with love, embodies Her perfect fulfillment of the divine commandment – to love God above all and to love others as Christ loves us. Her sacrificial love echoes Christ’s, demonstrated as She allowed Herself to be spiritually crucified, ensuring our salvation. Her love, devoid of revenge, seeks our redemption, prompting Her apparitions, such as the one at Fatima, where She forewarned us of impending struggles.

Our Call to Embrace Mary’s Love:

Today, let us not overlook Mary’s sufferings at the foot of the Cross or Her messages at Fatima. Instead, let us stand alongside St. John, inviting Mary into our homes and taking refuge in Her Immaculate Heart. As good sons and daughters, let us honor Her divine love by living justly, mercifully, and with unwavering devotion.

In the celebration of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we find solace in the boundless love of our spiritual Mother. May we draw inspiration from Her grace-filled love, embracing Her guidance, and reflecting Her love in our lives. Let us stand united, under the protective embrace of the Immaculate Heart, and continue this sacred journey with our beloved Mother Mary.
